"I found [the] workshop incredibly informative and inspiring. The day was a perfect balance of open discussion, activity and learning...The day in short was an invaluable part of my development as a dance practitioner."

WORK PLACEMENT BLOG

In January 2018 we had the fabulous Imogen Gregory join us for a weeks Work Placement. Here what she had to say about the experience...

Hello everyone!

This post doesn’t come from the usual fun faces, as Blue Moose bravely took me on for a placement week. I am Imogen and for the past week I have been fortunate enough to follow in the footsteps of the lovely Zanna, Sarah and Hannah, who are as we know, Blue Moose.

We are half way through the first month of 2018 (scary I know!), and I feel that Blue Moose have been able to heighten my understand of the ‘adult’ world. I have been given the opportunity to explore my own individuality whilst teaching and participating in various dance classes, making me aware of the importance of dance accessibility in communities. It is so valuable that communities and schools are given the opportunities to explore creative art, whilst being able to experience a strong sense of unity in a supportive environment.

I feel Blue Moose have been able to offer me the perfect insight to this. I have thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the positive impact Blue Moose has, whilst learning that the hard work that they put in, and i mean hard (long hours, traveling, inputing data, planning programmes, the list is endless) is all worth the effort, as it allows you to meet some amazing and inspiring people. You are able to take a step back witness the happiness people show when exploring dance, making a demanding job all worthwhile.

Q & A with Imogen

What are your highlights from the week with Blue Moose Dance Company?

  • Mature movers, best class ever…really fun! Never been in a class with older people and it was refreshing to see and get a look into how they enjoy dance. I would definitely want to teach a session like this in the future.

  • Teaching KS2 at Ingleton and helping with KS1 too.

  • Teaching Preston Youth Dance Company….I didn’t think I would like it from my past experience, however it was a real confidence boost and made me think ‘maybe I could do this.'

  • Understanding how much work goes into running a company. All the different admins aspects. I enjoyed learning about it as you don’t get that experience from a University course.

  • Meeting Malcolm the Moose.

  • I learnt a lot about what I want to do in the future and possibilities. I loved the community work.

  • Having help with my CV which will help me to progress in my career.

Have you had any low moments?

  • Would have liked to witness a lamb being born……(Zanna is also a Farmer)

Any other comments?

  • It was great that the first few days were full on with teaching and going out to the communities, then the second half of the week was more focussed on administration and how to run a company.

  • I enjoyed the balance of time to work independently, as well as group working with the Blue Moose Team to get to know everyone and ask questions/share knowledge.
