Zanna began dancing at the age of 4 at the Rondo Ballet School and Helen Howard School of Theatre Dance studying Classical Ballet and Modern Jazz performing in theatres across the country from Blackpool Winter Gardens to Sadler’s Wells, London. Whilst at secondary school Zanna discovered a passion for Contemporary Dance studying it at both GCSE and A-Level and went onto join the QED Youth Dance Company working with Liz Dale and Merville Jones, taking part in the National Youth Dance Festival 2007. In 2009 Zanna volunteered for the charity YFC in Antigua, Caribbean teaching a number of workshops in Contemporary Dance for ages 11 - 18years.

 

Zanna went on to train at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, working with choreographers Kate Jackson, Hagit Bar and Simon Birch. Zanna majored in Dance in Education, completing a 6 week teaching placement working with teenage girls with emotional and behavioural difficulties and graduated in 2010 with a BPA (Hons) Degree in Contemporary Dance performance.

 

Since graduating Zanna returned home to North Yorkshire beginning her own business, Zanna’s Dance, teaching a variety of community dance class for all abilities, and for ages ranging from 18 months to 80 years. Alongside this Zanna has also undertaken a variety of freelance work in schools, communities and special education settings, and on behalf of the likes of Ludus Dance, Phoenix Dance Theatre, DARE Dance, Culture Warrington and Green Close Studios. As a practitioner Zanna is particularly interested in community and inclusive dance.

 

Zanna has a particular interest in sited performance work, and her work is often inspired by & interpretative to people, their stories and places. Zanna has a range of experience both as a choreographer and performer within a variety of settings. As part of hop.skip.jump dance collective, Zanna performed and co-choreographed a number of a specially commissioned sited, interactive and engaging performance works; alongside Mass Dance projects, which included Flash Mob’s for Sheffield Student Union and Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club. Other performance credits include BIG Dance 2012 North West Link Up, performing and co-choreographing a specially commissioned work with 1250 dancers from across the region and most recently, as part of the Waste Makers, a collaborative arts performance showcased at the Breakin' Convention 2014 at Blackpool Grand Theatre.
