Working as performers and choreographers as part of hop.skip.jump dance collective, Sarah and Zanna were originally commissioned by Culture Warrington to create a sited, interactive performance piece to be shown in various sites across the town centre for their annual Contemporary Arts Festival. hop.skip.jump created #haveyouseenmykeys a piece exploring everyday pedestrian movement, distorting it and highlighting the ridiculous within our regular routine. The piece recieved overwhelmingly positive feedback from members of the general public, a large number of whom said they had never seen live dance theatre before and would love to see more.
By people watching, focusing in on the reflexes and routine actions of the general public within their daily routine, the company are inspired to present them back to the audience in an exaggerated manner; highlighting how ridiculous we become when in our own little world. Waiting in a queue, wrestling luggage, searching for your keys, reading a paper, asking for directions, walking ridiculously slowly; all routine realities for the public, which, in the everyday can seem so simple, yet to the outside eye, can become fascinating, amusing and enthralling. The dancers explore and make ridiculous the behaviour displayed by the unsuspecting audience members.
Following its original commision this piece was subsequently showcased at LEAP 2012 (Lancaster) and TURN (Manchester) 2013.
